The 640 Adventure WP fork is harsh on the small hits (rocks, roots, washboard, etc.) and very mushy on medium to big hits. This combination of harshness and softness creates vague steering and tracking, head shake, and overall instability. For ALL riders over 150lbs, this bike desperately needs firmer spring rates and matching valving. The harshness and wiggly wobbly handling will be a thing of the past. Your confidence and enjoyment will skyrocket and you’ll feel like Cyril Depres at the Dakar Rally.
Shock Re-Valve

The 640 Adventure WP shock suffers from a soft spring, wallowy low-speed compression valving, and a rebound circuit that is unable to control a firmer spring rate. Once these issues are corrected, the shock will be able to handle a wide variety of terrain and loads. I highly recommend that this be paired with the fork re-valve/re-spring to achieve proper balance and handling performance both on and off road.

The 950/990 Adventure WP fork is harsh on the small hits (rocks, roots, washboard, etc.), soft on big hits, and dives too much during braking. This combination of harshness and softness creates vague steering and tracking, drifting when the throttle is adjusted or chopped in a turn, and overall instability, especially on washboard gravel roads. For most riders it needs a firmer spring rate to correct the balance issues and a re-valve to correct the harshness.

The 950 Adventure WP shock suffers from stiff high-speed compression valving that causes the rear end to dance around during acceleration on choppy gravel roads. For some years/models and for some riders, the spring rate may need to be adjusted for correct balance.
